Amit Chandole, the close associate of Shiv Sena MLA and spokesperson Pratap Sarnaik who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday night, was produced before the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Thursday.

Chandole has been sent to threeday ED custody.

The ED had sought ten-day custody of Chandole to probe the money laundering case they are investigating in connection with the Topsgrup Securities.

According to the sources, the central agency told the court that Chandole’s statement was recorded on Wednesday and after that he was placed under arrest. The agency told the court that his custodial interrogation is required to probe the diversion of funds and the quantum of the proceeds of crime, which the agency suspect to have been laundered out of the country.

After hearing the arguments the court sent him to custody till November 29.

The agency had registered PMLA case based on the FIR of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust registered by the Mumbai police on October 28, after the direction of the court. The private complaint was lodged by Ramesh Iyer, the former employee asssistant vice president of the Topsgrup securities against the company’s founder Rahul Nanda and other promoters.

Nanda, however, had earlier refuted all the allegations and said that he along with his family is living abroad since past 14 years and was not at all involved in the business in India and that it was completely being run by the Iyer and top management.
