MADISON (WKOW) — Kate Field of Madison is doing her best to impress the sharks with her pitch on the hit ABC show “Shark Tank.”
Field owns a fully functioning kombucha brewery and home brewing supply company on the east side called “The Kombucha Shop.”
Kombucha is a fermented, fizzy, low sugar tea known to have probiotics. The beverage is rising in popularity, but costs three to five dollars a bottle. Field’s company lessens the cost for consumers, allowing them to brew at home.
“It’s been a really long journey,” said Field. “We started as a super small company.”
She started The Kombucha Shop five years ago after seeing a different kombucha kit.
“I just sat there, and I thought I can do this so much better.”
Even without Shark Tank, Field has done well for herself since the company started. She’s moved production from a small room to about 7500 square feet of space that operates seven days a week. She says, that allowed her to be picky with potential offers from the sharks.
“It was much less about the money for us because we’re a mature business. We’ve been cash flowing for a long time. So I was going in very much thinking, who’s going to be that partner who’s going to take us to the next level?” said Field.
While Field cannot reveal whether she teamed up with a shark until the show airs, she did tell us this. “I can say I’m very happy with the outcome of the show.”
You can catch her episode of Shark Tank Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on WKOW.
