Lewis Hamilton reveals his number one dream: ‘I’ve always wanted to do this’ | F1 | Sport

This year saw Lewis Hamilton crowned world champion for the fifth time, moving level with Juan Manuel Fangio and two behind Michael Schumacher in the all-time honours list.

Hamilton overtook his racing idol Senna, who boasts three titles to his name, last year when he saw off competition from Sebastian Vettel.

The 33-year-old admits winning the title is always at the forefront of his mind every year but claims the real dream he wanted to come true was to meet Brazilian, Senna.

Senna tragically passed away in 1994 while racing for Williams at the San Marino Grand Prix.

“Top of the list every year has been winning the world title. There’s never been anything above that,” the Mercedes driver told BBC Sport.

“Other dreams… I always wanted to meet Ayrton Senna but never got to do that.”

Hamilton has plenty of other passions away from the racing track – one of them being space.

And it’s clear he won’t be just settling for a quite lifestyle once he calls time on his racing career.

“Try to learn a language, read more books, find some time to go away with the family and do something spontaneous. Just random things,” Hamilton added.

“I love space. I would love to go to space. That’s a dream that is kind of crazy. I’d love to go in a fighter jet.

“I went to Nasa last year which was awesome so that was one of my dreams. I’m massively into space.

“I don’t have the list on the top of my mind right now but, the one I was aiming on at the beginning of the year, I reached.”

Hamilton and the rest of the F1 drivers conclude their season in Abu Dhabi at the end of the month.

Mercedes will once again be hoping for a strong finish after Valtteri Bottas and Hamilton claimed a one-two finish last season.
