Is an Only Fools and Horses reboot happening? David Jason weighs in

By December 5, 2020 No Comments

Are the rumors true? Could Only Fools and Horses be returning? Well, the classic British sitcom star David Jason has just weighed in on fans’ requests for a reboot, and it’s not looking too great.

Fans know that the comedy series ran from 1981 to 2003, and featured popular actors David Jason as Derek Edward “Del Boy” Trotter and Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney Charlton Trotter. The show follows the two brothers as they attempt to become rich.

Spinoff shows for Only Fools and Horses came after, but nothing can ever beat the original. Of course, that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting a reboot, even if those never quite do a good of job as expected.

According to The Sun, David Jason is fully against a reboot. While he and Lyndhurst reprised their roles for a Sport Relief special, it doesn’t look like the Del Boy actor would come back for any new full episodes.

Digital Spy caught up with Jason, and asked if there’s a possibility of rebooting Only Fools and Horses. “The answer there is no,” he stated.

He went on to explain his opinion with:

No, no, no, the writing would be the same, but also don’t forget, one of my flags that I like to wave, is that it’s a team effort, and it’s not just the character of Del and Rodney, and Uncle Albert, or Grandad, as it were. But it was all the other peripheral characters, you know, Boycie, Marlene and all of those, how beautifully played they all were. You’re hard-pressed to replace all those characters who have endeared themselves into the heart of your audience today. So it would be a very dangerous journey to take, so my answer to that is, don’t try.

For fans missing Only Fools and Horses, you might want to check out Jason’s new book, titled A Del of a Life: Lessons I’ve Learned. It’s being released in January 2021, and you can pre-order it on Amazon here.

And if you’re still feeling nostalgic for the classic show, it’s available to stream on BritBox, or on Amazon Prime Video with the BritBox add-on.

Perhaps one day David Jason will be interested in a reboot!
