Foothill High School’s DECA members showed off their business savvy during Global Entrepreneurship Week, an annual event that prepares high school and college students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
Taking place Nov. 16-22, Foothill DECA members decided to pit their business knowledge against students from other schools by participating in the California DECA Business Pitch Challenge.
“By the end of the challenge, students who chose to compete could, in teams of one to three, come up with a product idea, make a slide deck outlining the details, and record their presentation. Luckily, many students already had products in mind,” the group said in a statement.
Prior to the challenge, the Foothill students competed against each other, using a game similar to the popular TV show ‘Shark Tank’. After coming up with a product, the teams gave presentations over video calls with more experienced members of the chapter officer team, then used the officers’ “invaluable feedback” to improve their presentations “vastly.”
“It was truly amazing seeing the members applying their newly-acquired entrepreneurial skills to this activity and responding to our officers’ feedback,” said Kelsey Lem, Foothill DECA’s vice president of membership development.
